Creating a Studio Vibe at Home

Your practice is for YOU so lets make it special!

All my digital classes are designed for you to make them bespoke and custom to your needs and requirements. This is the beauty of home practice - you have complete control of creating that beautiful energy and good vibes.

Music

In the members blog area you will see a selection of playlists and podcasts you can play during the class (or ofcourse play your favorites if you prefer!) Personally, music is a huge part of my yoga practice as it automatically sets the tone for the class however we all have different tastes, different moods and different days so as a teacher I feel it’s really important to give the students choice and options depending on their mood.

Lighting

Depending on the style of class will depend on the lighting in the room. For example, I love practicing yin and restorative yoga in a really dimmed, dark and cosy room - perhaps with just a few small lights/candles. I find this really helps bring the energy down and refine my concentration allowing me to get deep into my internal practice. However, in a faster paced practice such as Vinyasa or Power it’s great to let all that beautiful sunlight in and soak up the sunshine & good vibes.

As always in digital classes I will give you the opportunity before we take our final resting shavasana to lower the lights and grab any props so your lighting preferences can be adjusted throughout the class.

Scents

Yoga is all about the breathe so by filling the space with your favourite scents and smells will really help with those big deep belly breaths and relaxation! You can do this in anyway that works for you and your space, whether that’s using wax melts, candles or a diffuser. Or by using your favourite perfume or essential oil on your wrists, props and dabbing it around your mat.

This is one of my favourite benefits of private at home practice as unfortunately in studios we are so restricted when using scents as this is again an incredibly personal preference, as well as a multitude of heath and safety risks/paperwork with candles and open frames in an open space.

Temperature

Admittedly I am one of those people that’s always FREEZING and needs to be under a heat lamp so for me I am always wrapped up or the heating is on full during my personal practice. But again this is different for us all so consider this when getting ready for your practice as well as considering the style of yoga you will be practicing if it will be a fast sweaty practice or cool and calm.

Remember you can always have some warmer layers and blankets nearby for shavasana at the end of our class.

Clothing

Always be cosy & always be comfortable! You do not need to go buy lots of expensive new yoga gear especially for cosy yin and restorative classes. I love to practice these slower paced classes in my pjs and loungewear!

If you’re always cold like me, fluffy soaks are also a great addition to keep warm and cosy.

Props

As always use props such as blocks and straps but I also invite you to use more homely props such as fluffy blankets, eye masks, and pillows. Whether this is in shavasana or throughout slower paced practices - get cosy! Just have these stacked up nearby, ready for you to grab as and when you need them, I will of course remind you at the beginning of each practice too.

Using an eye mask really helps me concentrate and go deeper into my meditations and breath work - it doesn't need to be a special yoga one (although the weighted ones are amazing) you can simply use whatever bedtime eyemasks you have at home.

Accessories & Extras

Incorporating Crystals into your practice can be really magical and create a whole new vibe to your practice. You can wear them by popping them in a pocket or even in your bra! You can place them around the room and around the mat. You can hold them in a seated meditation or shavasana or place them on areas of your body. If you would like to find out more about incorporating crystals in your practice or if you're unsure about which ones to use in your practice feel free to drop me a message!

Ready to take your home yoga practice to the next level? I can't wait to hear about how you create a personal at home yoga den - as always if you feel comfortable please share this beautiful space with me by tagging me on the socials or posting a picture in the community feed to inspire your fellow students!
