Outdoor Yoga in Portsmouth

As the seasons change in sunny Southsea and we welcome summer, the weather is perfect for enjoying our yoga practice outdoors. Each summer, join me in Southsea, Portsmouth for outdoor Yoga, meditation and sea swim classes on Southsea Beach and Southsea Common. What are some of the top benefits of practicing yoga outdoors? Learn more below.

1. Connect With Nature While Outdoors

Of course, one of the first benefits of doing yoga outside is connecting with nature. If you want to find your inner peace, then you need to understand what your relationship with the outside world looks like.

When you practice yoga outside, you can smell the fresh air, listen to the birds or sea waves in the background, and gaze up at the sky. It helps us to feel grounded, centred and connected.

2. Pump Fresh Air Into Your Lungs

If you want more energy throughout your day, you need to get some fresh air into your lungs. That is exactly what will happen if you enjoy a morning yoga class outside. With deep breathes, practicing pranayama (breathwork), better oxygen capacity, you can take care of your body and enjoy that natural energy boost throughout your day.

3. Get Your Daily Dose of Vitamin D

When you take your yoga practice outside, you can also get your daily dose of vitamin D. Vitamin D is very important for keeping your bones healthy. It is not unusual for people in the UK to have relatively low vitamin D levels, but you can fix this issue by exposing yourself to the sun; practicing yoga outside can help your body get its required level of vitamin D, which can help you protect your bones.

4. Improve Your Concentration and Focus

Even the most blissful of yoga studios, cannot match nature when it comes to serenity. Mindfully listening to the sounds of nature, automatically improves your concentration and focus when you take your yoga practice outside. You will have an easier time paying attention to the instructor, and the quiet, relaxing sounds of nature in the background make it easier for you to focus on what is going on.

5. Increase Your Balance and Flexibility

When you practice yoga outside, you dramatically increase your balance and flexibility. If you practice yoga inside, the floor is perfectly flat, removing some of the challenges... Practice yoga in a more traditional sense, and practice your yoga poses on uneven terrain. Even though you should still use a yoga mat, rug or beach towel to protect your feet, and stay comfortable, the uneven terrain will force you to improve your balance and flexibility.

6. You Feel Revitalized

My favourite benefit of practicing yoga outside is simply that refreshed and revitalized feeling at the end of class. When the session is done, you can feel the gentle summer breeze on your skin, you feel a boost of natural energy and its just the perfect way to start your day.
