But hold up, what are the benefits of taking a private 1-1 class? There are numerous reasons why people take 1-1 private yoga classes, this could be down to nailing down a specific yoga pose or goal, it could be due to anxiety or the stress of sharing a studio with other people, maybe you’d like to get your confidence and knowledge up, learning the basics and building solid foundations before heading to a group class or it could simply be that there aren’t any group classes available at a time that works for you.
No matter what the rhyme or reason, Yoga by Emily is available to guide and support you throughout your yoga and wellness journey. Alignment Have you ever got into a yoga pose and it just doesn’t feel right? When you can’t feel any stretch, or it simply feels awkward and uncomfy.. then your yoga instructor just tweaks you *slightly* and its like they’ve cast a magic spell over your body and you feel AMAZING! In busy and fully booked group classes, as a teacher its near impossible to give everyone my attention, while demonstrating and leading the class but in private 1-1 classes I can give you my full, undivided attention with those verbal ques and physical adjustments that are bespoke to your body. All our bodies are different and what feels good for some, may not feel good for others but this is why it’s so important to learn that correct alignment for your body shape and size from the get go. In private classes I can show you, how to use props correctly for your exact body and how to safely practice yoga. Your Bespoke Body Assessment All private 1-1 yoga classes whether online or in-studio begin with a personalised body assessment to figure out exactly what that student needs & create a practice that fully supports their unique body shape. I will ask you if you have any injuries to be aware of or any other medical conditions? How do you deal with stress? As well as your previous experience with yoga - have you attended classes before? As a teacher, I will be guiding you through different movements and poses, so I need to be aware of the physical capabilities of new students—not just to see where your starting point is but also to understand any limitations that might require modifications for you. Or, it can be to identify which props to use and poses to avoid. Enjoy Privacy I get it.. yoga can get weird. Sometimes we move our bodies in highly unflattering poses. Sometimes we breathe heavily, sometimes we get emotional and need a moment and when you’re in such a big open group setting it just doesn’t feel right. In all my classes, we are practicing in a safe space and I always try to make the environment as private as possible. Whether that’s closing blinds and windows, whether its staying far away from mirrors or simply shutting the world out, I want you to feel as safe, secure and comfortable as possible the entire way through your practice. I know I sound like a broken record but I have to keep on saying it. This is YOUR class for YOU! So if you need to cry, I am here. If you need to sleep, nap it out. If you wobble or fall over, or look super weird in a pose. Its okay I will be looking exactly the same! There’s no one here to see you, there’s no judgement and we will laugh and giggle about it together! Personal Check-In’s More importantly, we will also discuss what your aims are. Do you want to work towards a specific pose? Maybe you want to become stronger or more flexible. If so, what for? Perhaps you want to improve your mental health? Or improve fitness? I will also discuss styles of yoga, meditation, and pranayama, and see how you feel about incorporating these practices. With this personal connection and service, I am always here for you. For the good weeks, the bad weeks, the weeks you’re mega burnt out and don’t want to come into the studio. I’ll set you challenges, I’ll motivate you, inspire you and I will constantly make sure YOU are happy. This is your yoga practice and yoga journey, so if you don’t like a mediation or class – why? What did you struggle with? How can we overcome that or what do we need to work on? Likewise, those weeks you’re really not feeling it? We will adapt! We can change it up and make this session bespoke to what you need that exact day. If you cancel on me, I will check in and make sure you’re okay, make sure your enjoying yoga still and we will work together to ensure these sessions work for your life. In the past, I’ve had students who sign up for 5 weeks of power flow yoga with the initial goal to loose weight and tone up, and 2 weeks in decide that’s not for them, we are now 5-months into their yoga journey and they are still practicing yoga, on a weekly private basis but we’ve completely switched it up and learnt a slower yin practice is what they need each week instead. I am not exaggerating when I say my 1-1 private students become close friends, with our weekly chats and check-ins, and bespoke classes we learn together, we grow together and we create such a special atmosphere each week, it truly is something special! Feel Confident and Learn in your own time. We can take each session as slow as you like. No question is too silly, no need to apologise and we can spend as long as we like going over specific poses and flows. Build your knowledge and learn in whatever style works for you, ready for you to confidently walk into a group class like a pro! Make it wacky or boring! Want to try a mega off the wall class? Want to think outside the box and flow to your favourite podcast or playlist – LETS DO IT!
